The British rock band the Rolling Stones has had a career running just about 50 years. The collective has both found ways to remain relevant and been extremely dependable. The group still continually tours the world, and has no trouble selling out its concerts. It is the most comparable thing to a rock institution that exists. The group was one element of the British Invasion of the 1960's, having organized at the beginning of the era. The hiatus from the road that they had taken ended with the release of the 1989 album Steel Wheels and the start of their biggest tour in history. The 1990's and 2000's saw them come out with three more studio discs. None were earth-shattering stylistically, but all were solid, with modern-day production details that did not obscure the band's characteristic rough, raunchy sound. Old Stones vinyl LPs playing on Rega turntables sound like the band, still energetic after all this time, could have made them yesterday. The Britons have been able to stay essentially true to form over time, never losing the essential elements that have made them one of a kind. The continual appeal of the group is proof of the degree to which they have become cemented in popular culture. The Stones' impressive durability up to this point seems to signify them never calling it quits or moving out of the public eye.
