Designing a vintage-modern kitchen

When Vicki Simon first saw the tiny laminate-clad kitchen of her future home, it inspired grander visions. "I once toured a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, and was so taken with its Victorian-style kitchen that I memorized every detail: the stand-alone furniture, the big pot rack,Xinjiang China ToursA Jaw crusher robot is an automatic machine that is capable of movement in any given environment." recalls the interior designer. "It was beautiful but as functional as a commercial kitchen." Simon kept coming back to that image as she remodeled her 1908 house's kitchen, a process that involved restoring the original floors (despite contractors who said it couldn't be done), trolling Craigslist, and scouring salvage yards up and down the West Coast¡ªa 10-month labor of love that led her to declare, "If I ever move, this kitchen is coming with me."

Kitchen's 'Crooked' chronicles a teen's coming of age

The Kitchen Theatre Company continues its 2012-2013 season with "Crooked,Chefs Kitchen Knives" Catherine Trieschmann¡¯s coming-of-age tale set in Oxford, Miss., which opens this week and runs through March 17.
"Crooked" tells the story of Laney, a 14-year-old with a twisted back, who meets the devoutly religious Maribel after moving to Mississippi. Maribel offers a stark contrast to Elise,From personalised earrings embossed with the names of your loved ones or a messages onto handcrafted wholesale cheap Stainless Steel Whisky Stones, completed with sterling silver earring clasp are the first choice of the people. Laney¡¯s secular mother ¡ª and the spiritual journey that Laney embarks on forms the heart of the play.
KTC artistic director Rachel Lampert, who¡¯s directing this production, read "Crooked" a couple of years ago. She picked up again after Ithaca native Sophie Reppert, who acted in several KTC Family Fare shows, did a production of the play at her college.
"What I liked immediately about ¡®Crooked¡¯ is how truthful the characters of the mother and daughter are, and the textured nature of their relationship," Lampert said. ¡®This is not the destructive relationship in,whisky stones say, ¡®The Glass Menagerie¡¯ or ¡®Beauty Queen of Leenane.travel xinjiang¡¯ Instead, Trieschmann has written a mother and daughter in uniquely difficult circumstances filled with conflict, but also hope.
"I think all parents, no matter how old their kids are now, will relate to this play. Teenagers will see themselves, as will those of us whose teen years are long past."
Lampert noted Trieschmann¡¯s ability to convey a teen¡¯s thoughts in an organic way. "She gets to the heart of things," she said. "Her dialogue feels right and true. She has written three wonderfully intriguing women of very different ages in this play. Each is driven by deep beliefs.A Jaw crusher robot is an automatic machine that is capable of movement in any given environment. I think she is a detailed, keen observer and an expert at slice-of-life storytelling."

Kathy Allen has for years suffered from a combination of chronic

Gen. John Allen has pulled his name from consideration for the top military job in Europe, citing the health of his wife Kathy and his desire to support her and his two daughters. The decision creates an opening the White House must now scramble to fill, since Adm. James Stavridis, the current Supreme Allied Commander and head of U.S. European Command, has been in the job since June 2009. That is nearly a year longer than most combatant commanders serve, and Stavridis is thought to be eager to retire.Foreign Policy's Situation Report first reported last week that Allen was considering declining the job in Europe. The formal announcement today now sets off jockeying by other services and flag and general officers to position themselves for what remains a coveted combatant command.
Last month, Allen was exonerated by an investigation that looked into potential improper e-mails between him and Tampa socialite Jill Kelley. Although he was cleared, some media reports about his resignation indicate that Allen was forced out by the White House or that he was trying to avoid a contentious confirmation hearing that could force the Pentagon to release the e-mails.But Allen's citing his family may well be true. Kathy Allen has for years suffered from a combination of chronic health issues that include an autoimmune disorder, according to a report posted Tuesday by the Washington Post. Compared to the job of war commander, the job in Europe is seen as an easy one. But it has a brutal schedule that keeps that commander on the road as much as 20 to 25 days each month, according to sources. That would make it difficult for Allen, who just ended a 19-month tour in Kabul, to be there for his wife. "Right now, I've just got to get her well," Allen told the Post. "It's time to take care of my family."
Marc Chretien, Allen's longtime civilian adviser, said that unlike most cases in Washington where public officials cite family as a convenient excuse to mask other reasons for professional decisions, it's true in Allen's case. "Where 100 different people can cite family reasons as the reason for their retirement, General Allen is one out of 100 who is doing it exactly for those reasons," he said in a brief phone interview.President Barack Obama issued a statement Tuesday saying: "John Allen is one of America's finest military leaders, a true patriot, and a man I have come to respect greatly. I wish him and his family the very best as they begin this new chapter, and we will carry forward the extraordinary work that General Allen led in Afghanistan." Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said that Allen had proven himself to be one of the country's "most outstanding battlefield leaders, a brilliant strategist and an exemplary Marine, and I am deeply grateful for his many years of dedicated service to our country."

Harry Stone murder reward increased to over $20,000

The family of a Raytown man who was shot and killed while jogging in May 2012 have increased the reward in his murder. Police suspect Stone's murder could have been a gang initiation or a dare. The family of Harry Stone held a breakfast over the weekend to help raise money for the reward, which is now more than $20,000."Do the right thing is what Harry always said," said Bobbie Stone. "He was a man who believed in the goodness of human nature and he was a man that believed that if we always do the right thing, and love our neighbor as we love God and ourselves then it will be okay."
We just never know, do we? Being on life's danger list, I've found, actually prevents you from thinking about how you are, and there's a bread-like warmth in giving in to whatever was meant for you and whatever wasn't. The only critical mistake might be to confuse your pre-med with creativity – which is certainly worth the confusion if it renders you not fully present in your own life. Finally, I gorge myself on thanks for the many and varied messages of support that I've received over these recent four weeks. They have yanked me out of prolonged mood dips and cured a crisis of spirits. I fully realize that the word 'cancellation' in every known dictionary is followed by my own name, but no morale drops as low as my own at the mere suggestion of re-jigging shows. I sincerely ask for your pardon and your understanding. As for those of you who claim to now be officially sick to death of me – if this is really true, then why exactly are you reading this? As a matter of fact, I am even prepared to humble myself to nothing before those who carp; you see, any hospital-stay leaves us in danger of becoming unnecessarily agreeable. Life will right itself.
Alice in Chains' Layne Staley, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, Screaming Trees' Barrett Martin and the Walkabouts' John Baker Saunders came together to form Mad Season, venturing into hard-edged blues with their new project. The band released their only album, Above, the following year, but put things on hold soon after. Life took its toll, and Staley drifted away. The band tried to record a follow-up to Above in the late Nineties, but the personal troubles of Staley and the death of Saunders in 1999 put the band to rest. Staley would eventually pass away in 2002, and though Mad Season had worked on a sequel to Above, the tracks became lost.

Rolling Stones Meeting Next Month To Discuss 50th Plans

When the Rolling Stones meet next month in order to discuss plans for their 50th anniversary, guitarist Ron Wood has a suggestion--headline the Glastonbury festival this year."Wouldn't it be nice," Wood tells the Independent. Glastonbury runs from June 26-30 near Pilton, Somerset, England. Both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have told media that the band has received "quite a few offers" for a full tour in 2013 and think it would be "dopey" to pack it in after performing just a handful of shows.
She had to dig out the large rock and took it home without even being able to examine it.At her cabin, she was amazed to find, after cleaning off the dirt still clinging to the stone, that it had three separate images on the various rock surfaces."That was the best rock," she said of the experience. At the end of her hour-long presentation, Harper inspected various stones brought by audience members for her to read.Latest treatments for kidney stone now in Oman."How many stories do we walk over in a day?" Harper asked rhetorically. "We are usually so busy working on our computers that we don't even see them," she said in response to her own query.
Following Harper's presentation, many in the audience made their way to the main museum building where historical society members laid out platters of bagels and cream cheese, sliced luncheon meats and cheeses, chips and dips, pickles, olives and condiments.Kidney stones: not something you'd expects in kids. But more and more of them are ending up in emergency rooms.  So what's causing this drastic increase? CBS 2's Mary Kay Kleist explains."It felt like I was getting stabbed in the side, and it hurt really, really bad," 13-year-old Michael Wiggins says of the kidney stone he had two years ago.Madison Ryan had three kidney stone episodes. She's 15 now."The big increase is in the young adolescent population. So from age 10 to 16, is where the big increase we're seeing in stones," Craig B. Langman, professor of pediatrics at the Feinberg School of Medicine, says.Kidney stones can form when highly concentrated amounts of calcium, magnesium and phosphorous build up in the urine. One factor is genetics."My dad has had one, his older brother had one, and my great-grandma had some," Madison says.

Latest treatments for kidney stone now in Oman

Kidney stones are among the most common urological diseases affecting the people of Oman. The range of symptoms varies from back or back to front pain, bleeding with urine, urine infection and voiding difficulties. Occasionally, they may be completely asymptomatic.Kidney stones tend to grow and block the urine drainage from the kidney. In advanced stages, patients may experience kidney failure. Although small kidney stones (smaller than 5-6mm) may pass out spontaneously, larger stones and stones in odd locations in the kidney (lower pole) often demand intervention. The management of kidney stones has considerably changed in recent times. The conventional treatment was ESWL (popularly misnomered here as Laser), whereby the patient lies on a machine and external shock waves are directed to the stone with an objective to break it into pieces that can be expelled spontaneously. Although this is a good modality, the principal problems are its lack of efficacy for hard kidney stones, kidney stones in odd locations and stones with associated kidney blocks. Additionally, the fragmented stones need to be expelled from the body which is not a guaranteed phenomenon.
Large kidney stones were conventionally dealt with open surgery that required a large incision to approach the kidney. This procedure resulted in prolonged suffering and delayed recovery of the patient. The new treatment options aim at managing kidney stones in a less invasive or non-invasive way (minimal suffering to the patient) and ensuring complete clearance. Natural orifice surgery for kidney stones (using the natural urine passage and a special ultrathin flexible instrument) can completely clear stones upto 1.5cm in any pocket of the kidney.Stones of larger size can be cleared by a procedure called PCNL, or keyhole surgery, whereby a small hole is made in the back through which the kidney is entered to fragment the stone and remove it completely. Very large stones or stones with associated kidney blocks can be managed by laparoscopy in which three or four small holes are created in the tummy, the kidney opened and the stone completely removed and the kidney repaired. All these techniques use sophisticated technology and instruments, inflict minimal suffering to the patient and ensure complete clearance of kidney stones. Fortunately, in recent times, all these advanced techniques have been made available in Oman.

Celtic engagement rings and mens celtic rings seem to have been desirable for more than a thousand years. These early citizens were a race living almost everywhere in Europe which includes the north of Scotland and Orkney where these people were called Picts. The Celts' continuous pattern or knot design stands for endless love, and that's why Celtic engagement rings are enduringly well-liked today. The knot designs and styles show up on etched stones, artwork in sacred books, on jewelled weapons and also on the jewellery which was discovered in hoards and graves. Torcs (neck rings) and finger and toe rings were widely worn and men predominantly wore signet rings. They were made out of gold, silver, copper, tin, bronze and iron. Sometimes these were mounted with enamel, amber or gemstones. The British Museum boasts a ring dating from the Celtic time period crafted from deer antler. This indicates that it was not merely the wealthier and ruling classes who adorned themselves with jewellery.
